Natural Hair Dye: Naturtint Review #2

Photo of Naturtint 9R Fire Red hair dye

I decided to give Naturtint another go because they were giving away free boxes on their fb page, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to test them out one more time before moving on to other brands.

I covered application details in my previous review of 7N Hazelnut Blonde, here. In this post, I'm going to be comparing my experiences.

My hair wasn't as dry this time!

I was more careful this time around. I left it in for 30 minutes instead of 40, I used the enclosed shampoo once instead of the suggested twice, and I conditioned twice - once with the enclosed conditioner and once with my own. This left my hair much more manageable than last time, so I'm happy about that because the previous experience was nightmare-ish.

Full size shampoo & conditioner?!?

I didn't talk about the box's shampoo and conditioner packets much last time, but since Naturtint included full sizes in the giveaway, here are my thoughts. For a supposedly "naturally better" brand, I'm not sure that the ingredients are all that clean. For reference, the shampoo rates a "2" and the conditioner rates a "4" on EWG. In addition to this, the shampoo drys out my hair and the conditioner works well in the context of hair dying, but I don't feel comfortable using it on a normal basis. They are also heavily fragranced.

Color vibrance / fading

I was disappointed that my color wasn't nearly as bright as the box. Mine was more of a red with a lot of brown tones. One of those "you need to be in the light to really see it" colors. I'd also like to note that both times, Naturtint didn't do much to lighten my hair. That may have to do with the colors I chose, but my roots stayed dark.

Since the last color I used was blonde, it was difficult to get a sense of the dye's lasting power, but with this red, I have a better idea. After 2 weeks, my blonde was starting to come through, which you can see in the photo below. At 3 weeks, the dye was almost all gone (if you've seen my recent videos, those were at 3 weeks).

Would I try it again?

I think I've had enough of Naturtint. Recommendations or insights on other natural hair dyes would be much appreciated!
